NaNoWriMo is almost here; less than a week to be more specific. I am starting to get the pre-NaNo jitters. It’s a nervous energy that makes you want to start writing like your hands were set on fire. Since I can’t start writing Daddy’s Little Girl, I will work on my character sketches and basic plot outline.
Speaking of characters, I have yet to be introduced to the main antagonist in the story. I know what she looks like, and I can even recall bits of dialog she’s had in my dreams, but her name still eludes me. I am sure she will make herself known when the time is right. In the meantime, I will continue to get to know both Charlie Harbison and Dakota Reese.
As DLG is the first book in the Ascension series, I want the project to tell a good story while introducing some of the main players in the series. I think it is important to establish who they are early, and then spend the quality time developing the characters so that readers will want to invest their time learning more about them.
Sigh, so much to do. I am going to take a break from the computer from Thursday to Sunday evening to get me head cleared for NaNo. I will spend the next few days catching up with other projects on which friends are working. From there, I’ll saunter around the NaNoWriMo forums like a pimp in a pool hall for a bit. Maybe I will spend a day just laying around and letting my mind wander.
If you’re doing NaNo, dear reader, how are you prepping yourself? Or, like me, are you wondering if you’re even going to be prepared when midnight strikes on the first of November?
