Hey, reader, just wanted to give an update on how Numb — my project for this year’s NaNoWriMo — is going. So far I’m over 8K, which is okay. I’m not behind, but I’m not as far as I wanted to be by this point. I wasn’t expecting life to put itself on hold, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating. But, I’m going into my vacation week, so this will be a great opportunity to pull ahead in the word count.
Story-wise, I couldn’t be happier. Numb started off slow, but looking at it now, it’s a positive slow build. I do hope the eventual pay off is worth the time I’m spending building the characters and the city in which they live.
I’m debating whether or not to post some early pages. It’s not that I’m being secretive, but I don’t believe in posting shoddy work. And right about now, of the +8K words on the page, 7,500 of them are shit. I don’t write rough drafts. My first drafts are like akin to throwing up after drinking too much; nasty…just nasty.
But I will discuss the project more and maybe post some paragraphs written outside the scope of the novel. I’ll write things about my characters that will never make it into the novel. Some of those bits are pretty good. We’ll see. Right now it’s time to get back to work.
