LibreOffice Writer Woes

I’m having a hard time getting LibreOffice Writer to play nice. Using the program isn’t the problem. If you used Word 2003, then you get an idea of how to navigate LO Writer. I insert my page numbers, being sure to use the First Page style for my first page and the Default style for the rest. Everything looks fine. However, when I open the file in Word 2010, the page numbering goes wonky like in the screenshot below.

How can I be confident sending an editor work formatted in LO Writer when it opens up weird in Word? Like it or not, Word is the standard in the publishing business. I own Office 2010, but I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed on my laptop. I want to like LO Writer, but it looks like LO Writer doesn’t like neither Word 2010 or me.
