I like to write my rough drafts using a plain text editor like Notepad (Windows) or Gedit (Linux). I like using these editors because they are sparse in functionality and I can focus on my writing. Because I want to do more writing on my iPad Mini, I searched iTunes for something similar to what I use in Windows. What I found is PlainText by Hog Bay Software.
I’ve been using the free, ad-supported version for about two weeks and I am impressed with the app. It’s a simple writing tool that saves my work in a — pun sort of intended — plain text format. The app stays out of the way so I can write. I can link PlainText to my Dropbox account, so my work is wherever I need it. This feature alone was worth the $1.99 I paid for the ad-free version.
Looking forward to seeing how well PlainText performs while working with longer pieces of writing, such as short stories and novel chapters. Stay tuned!
